The Ministry Of Health Highlights The Importance Of Digitizing The Health Sector To Support Sustainable Health

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) highlights the importance of digitization in the health sector. This digitization aims for many things, one of which is to support sustainable health or sustainable health.

Digitalization is carried out to minimize the use of goods that may not have a good impact on the environment. This must be done so that the environment is maintained and good for future generations.

"We want to build digitalization in the health sector so that there will be no more use of paper, the use of printer ink and so on. Because we want everything to be digital and this will certainly greatly reduce the impacts on our natural sustainability," said Director General of Pharmacy and Medical Devices of the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Rizka Andalucia at Sysmex Indonesia CEO of Forum 2025, in South Jakarta, Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

The digitalization in question also includes various aspects. Starting from telemedicine (distance health services), electronic medical records, which aim to increase productivity and access to health services for the community.

Indonesia itself has also taken several strategic steps, such as the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Green Hospital initiative. This focuses on energy efficiency and better waste treatment.

"To realize a sustainable health system, we have implemented UHC and then encouraged the public to get better services and also initiatives for Green Hospital, encouraging energy efficiency and better waste treatment," he explained.

However, Rizka acknowledged that the application of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles or frameworks to measure sustainability and business ethics in the health sector still faces various challenges. Therefore, collaboration between the private sector and the government must continue to be developed to further support sustainable health.

"So much is the role of the private sector in the health sector, so it is our collective duty to maintain that health services provide great benefits and impacts for the welfare of the people," concluded Rizka.
