JAKARTA - Generation Z, a young group born between 1997 and 2012, seems to have a lower frequency of having sex than previous generations.

This phenomenon has been the concern of many parties because it is different from the habits of Millennials, Gen X, or Baby Boomers.

Dr. Mark Perera, a general practitioner who has an interest in sexual health, explained some of the factors that may be the cause. In an interview, he admitted that it was difficult to really determine the reason.

"There are many factors related to stress," explained Dr. Perera, quoted from LADbible.

"Economic stress, stress related to housing, not having a neighborhood that allows you to enjoy having sex," he added.

He also added that there was an element of self-understanding related to personal needs in terms of intimacy.

"This is not about following the general trend," he said.

"But it's more about deciding, 'Am I ready to have sex?', 'Do I want to have sex?', 'Is my libido high so I want to do it now?'" he continued.

Dr. Perera believes one reason Gen Z is having less sex is because they are more self-aware.

"That's what I want to believe," he added.

A previous study from UK sex toy company Lovehoney gathered data on how often each generation had sex in a year.

The results showed Baby Boomers (likely born between 1946-1964) had sex about 47 times per year, or about 0.9 times per week.

While Gen Xers have sex an average of 1.2 times per week, those aged 46-60 are estimated to have sex about 62 times per year.
