JAKARTA - Many couples who are undergoing pregnancy programs (promil) often seek information about things that can increase the chances of pregnancy.

One of the questions that most often arise is the position of intimate relationships which are considered the most effective so that sperm can more easily reach egg cells.

According to Dr. Seso Sulijaya Suyono, Sp.And, a specialist in andrology, this question is natural, but often causes misunderstandings in society.

"Many are asking, what kind of sex position can increase the chances of pregnancy?" said Dr. Seso, quoted from the Andrological Class YouTube channel.

In his explanation, Dr. Seso mentioned that there are various variations in the position of husband and wife relations, ranging from missionaries, women on top, horse riding positions, to sideways positions. However, he stressed that it is not the main factor in determining the success of conception.

"There are many variations in the relationship between husband and wife, they can be missionaries, namely the man above or the woman on top position. Then, the position of riding a horse, the position is sideways," said Dr. Seso.

Although many think that certain positions will increase the chances of pregnancy, in fact, sperm quality remains the main key.

"Any position for a prominence that is important is the quality of sperm cells. It does not mean that the sperm cell can quickly enter and can penetrate, until it meets the egg," he said.

Furthermore, Dr. Seso explained that what determines the success of the fertilization process is how the quality of sperm itself, both in terms of movement and shape.

"Then what is the quality of the movement of sperm cells, how is the morphology or shape of sperm. Now that's the most important thing," said Dr. Seso.

That is why couples who are struggling to have children are highly recommended not to delay undergoing fertility examinations, both on the husband and wife.

"So for those of you and your partner who are promoting, don't hesitate, don't hesitate to immediately check your fertility status and your partner," he added.

According to Dr. Seso, fertility checks can be carried out with simple but very important steps. In women, inspections are usually carried out through a transvalent ultrasound to see the condition of the uterus and the tube channel. As for men, examinations are carried out by sperm analysis.

"If a woman usually comes to an obstetrician for a transvaginal ultrasound, ultrasound see if the egg channel is dead or not. For men, they usually check sperm, check sperm analysis at least twice," he explained.

Apart from the medical aspect, Dr. Seso also emphasized the importance of comfort and emotional condition when having sex. Stress and feeling burdened can actually reduce the quality of the relationship and affect the chances of getting pregnant.

"If you have a husband and wife relationship, don't think that you have to do this, it becomes a burden and doesn't relax. The main goal is a husband and wife relationship, the most important thing is comfort, emotion, so it is maintained so that it is mutually satisfying." said Dr. Seso.
