Getting To Know Vaginismus, A Condition That Makes Women Uncomfortable When Celebrating

JAKARTA - Not everyone feels comfortable and fun when making love, one of which is a woman with vaginismus. Vaginismus is a medical condition that causes the muscles around the vagina to contract reflexively, making it difficult or even impossible to penetrate. Here are some things that should be known about vaginismus.

1. Symptoms experienced

Muscle contraction due to vaginismus will be felt when something, whether a penis, finger, or cation, tries to enter the vagina. This will cause discomfort, painful feelings experienced during sex, to the inability to have sex, reported by the Cleveland Clinic, on Friday, February 21, 2025.

Symptoms of vaginismus can arise when a woman has sex for the first time. Symptoms can also appear when a woman wants to use a capacity or do a pelvic examination at a health service provider.

2. Factors that cause

Regarding the cause of vaginismus, there are no definite factors. This condition can be caused by physical, psychological, and sexual problems. urinary tract infections (ISK) and fungal infections can also cause vaginismus pain.

Other factors that can contribute to the cause of vaginism are anxiety disorders, childbirth injuries such as vaginal tearing. The fear of sex or negative feelings about sex, perhaps due to sexual harassment or past trauma, can also be the cause of vaginismus.

3. Varginismus treatment

The treatment of vaginismus focuses on reducing muscle reflexs that cause tension in the vagina. Treatment is also done by overcoming anxiety or fear that contributes to vaginismus.

Some of them are topical therapy or cream administration that can help treat pain, and basic physical therapy of the pelvic floor or the lubrication process of the pelvic floor muscles to reduce contractions that cause pain.

Then there is vaginal dilator therapy, which aims to stretch the vagina to make it more comfortable and less sensitive when penetration occurs. Cognitive behavioral therapy is also needed for processing emotions, anxiety, and trauma, to sex therapy for either a woman herself or with her partner to get to know and find pleasure in mutual sexual intercourse.
