JAKARTA - A call to a couple like 'dear' or baby' is often considered clich and makes some people feel uncomfortable. However, the study reveals that the call to love between the couple can make the relationship more lasting.

The study was conducted at Superdrug Online Doctor, against 1,026 adults in the United States (US) and Europe. Participants aged 20 to 71 who have been in a relationship for at least one month, with a composition of 49 percent of respondents from Europe and 51 percent from the US.

It was found that the use of nicknames was able to increase relationship satisfaction by 16 percent in the US and 9 percent in Europe. The popular nicknames used are leave, press, and honey.

"It could be a sign that the two of them have felt quite comfortable and built a language of love together," the Superdrug team said in its report, quoted from the Independent, on Friday, December 5, 2025.

The nicknames that are rarely used by most couples are sweet cheats, papai, and Daddy.

Previous research published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relations of the year also found that couples using unique panggilan names tend to be more satisfied in relationships.

However, the study noted that the frequency of the use of nicknames unfortunately decreased over the long relationship between partners. Especially in couples who already have children.
