JAKARTA - A tourist from Poland named Karolina Krzyzak died in December 2024 at a resort on Sumberkima Hill, Bali. The cause of death is suspected to be due to severe malnutrition.

Launching from The Sun, Karolina came to Bali for a vacation as well as attended an event on raw vegans and health discussions about fruit diets. However, since November 2024, his health condition has decreased drastically.

Initially, Karolina only underwent a 'clean eating' diet, namely a lifestyle that focuses on consuming natural, fresh, and minimal processing foods. This pattern also avoids high processed sugar, salt, unhealthy fats, as well as additional chemicals such as preservatives and artificial dyes.

However, when studying at the University of Leeds, England, Karolina's diet changed drastically. He decided to become a raw vegan, only eating raw fruit and vegetables without other foods.

This extreme diet made his parents worried. In fact, Karolina was hospitalized in Poland due to her declining health condition. Even so, he remains steadfast in his choice to undergo a raw vegan diet.

In September 2024, Karolina flew to Bali with a weight of only about 27 kilograms, because she only ate one piece every day. His condition worsened in November 2024, until he was finally found dead a month later.

Before he died, Karolina had mentioned that the diet made his mind clearer and calmed his soul.

However, nutritionist Kate Patton of Cleveland Clinic confirmed that diets of fruits or fruit life diets are not recommended in the long term.

The diet of fruits carries a high risk of malnutrition, explains Kate Patton, as reported by Cleveland Clinic.

"Therefore, this diet is usually not recommended by nutritionists because it is not part of a balanced plan to eat," he added.
