JAKARTA - The construction of the People's School (SR) in Jepara Regency, Central Java Province, has entered the final stage and is confirmed to be ready to be functional for teaching and learning activities in the 2026/2027 academic year.
A total of 345 students are scheduled to start attending the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) on August 20, 2026.
This readiness is part of the commitment of the Ministry of Public Works (PU) in supporting the provision of decent education infrastructure for children from pre-prosperous families as well as expanding access to quality education.
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the construction of SR is one of the government's priority programs in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's direction to break the chain of poverty through education.
"People's Schools are the main program to eradicate poverty. By educating children from pre-prosperous families, they are expected to improve the quality of life of their families from pre-prosperous to prosperous, as well as preparing the Indonesian Golden Generation 2045," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Thursday, August 6.
Dody assessed that education was a long-term investment that must be supported by adequate infrastructure.
Therefore, the Ministry of PU ensures that all SR facilities and infrastructure can be used optimally before the learning activity begins.
SR Jepara Regency is part of the Central Java 2 SR Development Package implemented by the Central Java Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Task Force (Satker).
The school was built on an area of 10 hectares with the contractor Adhi-Minarta KSO and a budget of around Rp. 2.4 billion.
The education complex is equipped with various supporting facilities, ranging from school buildings for elementary, middle and high schools, multipurpose buildings, worship and mosque buildings, guest houses, kitchens, teacher housing, boys' and girls' dormitories, canteens, ceremonial fields, running tracks, football fields to basketball courts.
Based on the recapitulation of the progress of physical work, the SR of Jepara Regency has been functionalized, so that it can be used for teaching and learning activities.
Even so, the PU Ministry is still continuing to refine a number of final works.
The current focus is directed at the finishing stage, including ensuring the quality of architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) work and the arrangement of the area so that all facilities are ready for optimal use when the MPLS begins.
The construction of SR is one form of support from the Ministry of PU for improving the quality of human resources through the provision of inclusive basic infrastructure.
Through the provision of integrated and decent education facilities, the government hopes that children from pre-prosperous families will have a better learning opportunity, so that they can improve their quality of life in the future.
