Speedboat Sekatak Express Burns in Salimbatu Waters, All Passengers-Crew Safe

BULUNGAN - The regular Sekatak Express speedboat on the Tanjung Selor-Tarakan route caught fire in Salimbatu waters, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan. All passengers and crew were confirmed safe in the incident.

The Tanjung Selor Class II UPP City Officer, Mulyono, said based on the departure manifest, the speedboat transported 22 adult passengers, three children and four crew members.

"Thank God there were no casualties. All passengers and crew members of the speedboat are safe," said Mulyono when confirmed, Thursday, August 6.

Mulyono explained that the manifest document recorded that the Sekatak Express speedboat departed from Tanjung Selor to Tarakan on August 6, 2026 at 10.20 and was mediated by PT Wahana Maritim Servis.

"The fire occurred when the speedboat was passing through the Salimbatu waters. The flames burned the hull of the ship," he said.

Mulyono said his party and the police were still investigating to find out the cause of the fire.

"We are still finding out the chronology of the incident with the police. Currently, the investigation process is still ongoing," he explained.

Until this news was released, the exact cause of the fire was not known. The apparatus is still collecting information from witnesses and conducting an investigation to uncover the cause of the incident that burned the speedboat.
