JAKARTA - Thailand is ready to supply 36 wheeled amphibious armored vehicles to the Indonesian Marine Corps. The offer was made by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul when he met President Prabowo Subianto.
Anutin conveyed this in a joint press statement with Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, August 3.
According to Anutin, the Indonesian-Thai defense cooperation needs to be expanded, including in the field of defense industry.
"I propose that we expand cooperation in the field of defense industry. Thailand is ready to supply 36 wheeled amphibious armored vehicles to the Indonesian Marine Corps," said Anutin.
The wheeled amphibious armored vehicle is a combat vehicle that can move on land and water. Anutin said the vehicle model is currently used by the Royal Thai Marine Corps.
He thanked Indonesia for giving the opportunity for Thai defense products to be used in Indonesia.
"The vehicle model is currently actively used by the Royal Thai Marine Corps," Anutin said.
"I am very grateful that you have given us the opportunity for our products to be used in your country," he said.
Anutin also invited Indonesian representatives to attend the Defence and Security Expo in Thailand which will be held in November next year.
He said that the defense relationship between the two countries had been established for a long time. Before coming to Jakarta, Anutin admitted that he asked high-ranking officials of the Thai Army to give a briefing on the Indonesian-Thai defense relationship.
From the briefing, Anutin said Prabowo was highly respected among the Thai military.
"They told me that His Majesty is really a highly respected figure in the military," Anutin said.
He also said many young Thai generals admired Prabowo's leadership and dedication.
According to Anutin, the close defense relationship allows the two countries' armed forces to continue joint military exercises on a regular basis, exchange information, and maritime security cooperation with the TNI.
Anutin also welcomed the success of the Joint High-Level Committee Indonesia-Thailand held in Bangkok in February this year.
