JAKARTA - The Gondanglegi-Simpang Balekembang road in Malang Regency, East Java Province, is proposed to be upgraded to a national road after the project is completed.
The road, which was previously a district road, is being handled through two work packages with a total investment value of IDR 373 billion.
During the review on Monday, July 27, the Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo emphasized the importance of completing projects according to targets by paying attention to quality, time and cost of implementation.
"I hope that the construction will run smoothly and be completed according to the target so that the benefits can be felt immediately by the community," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Tuesday, July 28.
The PU Ministry targets the handling of the Gondanglegi-Simpang Balekembang Road to be completed by the end of this year.
The handling of the Gondanglegi-Simpang Balekambang road is divided into two work packages, namely Lot 16A along 16 kilometers and Lot 16B along 14.45 kilometers.
Lot 16A package has an investment value of Rp. 183 billion with a physical progress of 78.09 percent until mid-July 2026. The work involves 139 local workers.
The scope of work includes road widening, road reconstruction, replacement of one bridge, rehabilitation of two bridges, construction of box drainage and installation of traffic signs and signs.
Meanwhile, Lot 16B worth Rp190 billion recorded a physical progress of 84.58 percent and absorbed 159 local workers.
In the package, the work includes widening and reconstruction of roads, replacement of three bridges, rehabilitation of one bridge, construction of box drains as well as installation of road markings and signs.
The Gondanglegi-Simpang Balekambang road has a strategic position as the main link to the South Coast Line (Pansela) of East Java.
The existence of the road is also expected to facilitate access to a number of tourist destinations in South Malang, such as Balekambang Beach, Ngliyep Beach and Sendang Biru Beach.
"This road has a strategic role as an access to the beach tourism area in South Malang," said Dody.
