Perry Warjiyo Resigns as BI Governor, Destry Damayanti Leads Bank Indonesia. (Special)

JAKARTA - Perry Warjiyo officially resigned from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia after about seven years leading the central bank. The President accepted the resignation and Destry Damayanti automatically took over as acting governor.

Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi said the government received Perry's resignation letter on Sunday (26/7/2026). The letter was delivered to the President.

"The President accepted the resignation of Mr. Perry Warjiyo, accompanied by his highest thanks and appreciation for his dedication for about seven years leading Bank Indonesia," said Prasetyo at the Bank Indonesia Office, Jakarta, Monday, July 27.

The government will then process Perry's dismissal in accordance with the mechanism in the Bank Indonesia Law. The President will issue a presidential decree regarding the dismissal of Perry from the position of Governor of BI.

Prasetyo explained that the position of Governor of BI will automatically be carried out by the Senior Deputy Governor. This position is currently held by Destry Damayanti.

"The Senior Deputy Governor will then carry out all the duties as the interim governor. The Senior Deputy Governor is Mrs. Destry Damayanti," he said.

At the press conference, Prasetyo was accompanied by Destry and a number of BI deputy governors. They are Aida S. Budiman, Filianingsih Hendarta, Ricky Perdana Gozali, and Thomas A. Muliatna Djiwandono.

Prasetyo asked all parties to continue to carry out their duties according to their respective authorities. BI remains responsible for maintaining monetary policy, while the government through the Ministry of Finance carries out fiscal functions.

According to Prasetyo, coordination between the central bank and the government will continue to be maintained during the leadership transition period.
