KAI Logistics manages 6.8 million tons of freight until May 2026, strengthens its role in the smooth supply chain of the nation

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik) continues to strengthen its contribution in supporting national goods distribution. Through railway-based logistics services and multi-modal utilization, by May 2026 the company managed to manage a freight volume of 6.8 million tons consisting of various strategic commodities to meet the needs of the national industrial sector.

This achievement reflects the role of KAI Logistics in supporting the smooth supply chain in various operational areas. In the midst of the industry's need for increasingly efficient, integrated, and sustainable logistics services, the company continues to strive to provide distribution services that can meet the needs of shipping retail goods to large-scale goods.

In May 2026 alone, KAI Logistics managed to record the management of freight of 1.7 million tons. This volume is dominated by coal transportation of 1.1 million tons. In addition, the company also manages 267 thousand tons of container freight, 224 thousand tons of pre and post-fuel/fuel services, about 38 thousand tons of cement freight, 6 thousand tons of retail freight, and 684 tons of B3 waste freight that requires special handling according to applicable safety standards and regulations.

KAI Logistics President Director, Yuskal Setiawan, said that until May 2026, a number of the company's business lines showed positive growth compared to the same period last year. This growth mainly occurred in the multi-commodity transportation and retail goods delivery segments, which are one of the company's development focuses.

"Year-on-year, in May 2026, retail goods shipments experienced growth of 37% and container freight of 24%. This growth shows an increase in the use of railway-based logistics services by various industrial sectors to support their distribution activities," said Yuskal, Thursday, June 18.

In addition to growth in existing services, KAI Logistics also continues to develop its business portfolio through the optimization of the company's capabilities as a multi-modal logistics operator. In May 2026, the company began to carry out Crude Palm Oil (CPO) transportation services and managed a volume of 17 thousand tons in the initial phase of operations.

According to Yuskal, the development of services and diversification of commodities is part of the company's efforts to expand the use of more efficient logistics transportation modes, especially for the delivery of goods in large volumes.

Through the strengthening of railway-based logistics services and multimodal collaboration, KAI Logistics hopes to continue to contribute to supporting the smooth distribution of various national strategic commodities. In addition, the company is also working to expand collaboration with various industrial sectors so that more business actors take advantage of efficient, integrated, and sustainable logistics services.

"In the future, KAI Logistics is optimistic that strengthening the role of the railway in the national logistics system can be part of a joint effort to increase the efficiency of goods distribution, support inter-regional connectivity, and contribute to a gradual reduction in national logistics costs," concluded Yuskal.
