JAKARTA - The obligation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) label for packaged drinking water (AMDK) products will take effect in October 2026.
Therefore, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to strengthen industry readiness through technical assistance to industrial actors, strengthening the use of the National Industrial Information System (SIINas) and increasing synergy with industry associations in the region.
Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the mandatory implementation of SNI on AMDK is a strategic step for the government to ensure the safety and quality of products circulating in the community, as well as to increase the competitiveness of the national industry.
The implementation of the SNI is mandatory for AMDK as stipulated in the Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) Number 62 of 2024 which covers five product categories, namely Mineral Water (SNI 3553:2023), Demineralized Water (SNI 6241:2023), Natural Mineral Water (SNI 6242:2023), Drinking Water Dew (SNI 7812:2021) and High pH Drinking Water (SNI 8982:2021).
"The AMDK industry has an important role as a provider of basic community needs as well as a sector that contributes to national economic growth. Therefore, the implementation of Minister of Industry Decree Number 62 of 2024 must be seen as an effort to strengthen standardization, consumer protection, product quality safety and improve the competitiveness of national industries," said Agus quoted from a written statement, Thursday, June 18.
According to Agus, the government invites all AMDK industry players to immediately adjust the applicable provisions, including increasing the readiness of production technology, quality control systems, and compliance with standardization regulations.
"The government invites all industry players to strengthen investment, improve product quality and build collaboration with all stakeholders so that a healthy, equitable and sustainable business climate is created," he said.
Agus also appreciated the role of the Association of Indonesian Bottled Drinking Water Companies (Aspadin) as a strategic partner of the government in supporting the socialization and accompaniment of the implementation of regulations to industry players in various regions.
In addition to meeting the aspects of compliance with regulations and quality standards, the AMDK industry is also encouraged to implement the principles of green industry through the efficient use of water resources, waste reduction, and strengthening the application of circular economy to support the development of sustainable industry.

One example of readiness in the implementation of this policy is at the Banjarbaru Industrial Service Standardization and Service Center (BSPJI).
BSPJI Banjarbaru has held a Technical Guidance (Bimtek) for the Registration of SNI Certificates and SNI SPPT AMDK Products through SIINas which was attended by 30 AMDK industry players from South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) Emmy Suryandari said the government continued to provide assistance to industry players during the transition period towards the mandatory implementation of SNI AMDK.
"BSKJI through its technical implementation units in the regions is committed to ensuring that industry players understand regulations, certification processes, and reporting procedures through SIINas. This assistance is important so that the implementation of policies runs effectively, increases industry compliance, and strengthens the national industry data base as a basis for formulating more targeted policies," he said.
Through this activity, participants gained an understanding of the procedures for registering SNI and SPPT SNI certificates through SIINas, the mechanism for reporting industrial data, and various technical aspects that need to be prepared before the mandatory SNI AMDK is implemented.
