JAKARTA - Samsung Heavy Industries has received a new large order. The South Korean shipyard won a contract of 4.33 trillion won or about USD2.85 billion to build an FLNG facility. Assuming a rate of Rp17,800 per US dollar, the value of the contract is equivalent to around Rp50.73 trillion.
Launching Yonhap, Tuesday, June 2, Samsung Heavy said the deal was signed with an unnamed North American client.
FLNG or floating liquefied natural gas is a floating facility for processing and liquefying natural gas at sea. This technology is important because the gas can be processed near its source, without having to always be brought to a land facility first.
The facility is scheduled to be delivered in July 2030.
This contract strengthens Samsung Heavy's order book this year. With the latest order, the company has bagged contracts worth a total of USD8.3 billion to build 28 vessels over the course of the current year.
