JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo targets that the handling of 23,000 house and residential areas in Aceh Tamiang Regency can be completed through the Cash Work Compact (PKT) program.

The target was conveyed by Dody when reviewing one of the implementation points of the PKT in Aceh Tamiang, Sunday, May 24.

The program was carried out through mud cleaning activities in the community settlements affected by the disaster.

Dody emphasized that handling mud in residential areas is one of the main priorities of the government because sedimentation and mud have been the main problems since the beginning of the disaster in Aceh Tamiang.

"I need to see the issue of flooding in housing. This is important because in Tamiang, from the beginning we came, the main problem was mud," said Dody, quoted from an official statement, Monday, May 25.

"That's what I have to pursue, so that the mud is immediately cleaned with a solid work system, so that the community is immediately involved in the work process," he continued.

PKT in Aceh Tamiang has been carried out since the emergency response period as part of community-based area recovery which is expected to restore economic activities.

Through this scheme, house owners and the community are directly involved in house cleaning, residential neighborhoods, drainage, and area recovery activities.

"We have been working on this program since the beginning of the disaster. So, the house owners we activate according to the direction of President Prabowo, that the people affected by the disaster are actively involved in the recovery process," he said.

At the location that was reviewed, the process of cleaning the house had been going on for three days with the condition of damage due to mud being quite heavy.

"Here there are still some parts of the house that have not been completed. Hopefully in the next one to two days it can be completed and the community can have a more decent life," he said.

"This is one of the pilot projects that we will later duplicate to other regions," he continued.

In addition to handling residents' houses, the PKT in Aceh Tamiang has also completed the cleaning of drainage channels with a total channel length of 28,568 meters.

The activity involved 16,353 workers with a total budget of Rp. 2.45 billion.

Dody also appealed for the cash labor-intensive program to be immediately expanded to other disaster-affected areas, especially areas that experience sedimentation and mud deposits in residential areas.

"The main focus is indeed in Aceh Tamiang because the impact is big. But later it will also go to Pidie Jaya and several other areas. There are about 10 regencies/cities in Aceh that we will do like this, especially the mud-affected areas in people's homes," he added.
