LOMBOK TENGAH - The Central Lombok Regency Investment and One-Stop Service Agency (DPMPTSP) in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) stated that the closure of dozens of modern retailers was not due to the existence of the Red and White Village Cooperative, but because it violated local regulations.
"The regulation of modern retail is because it violates the provisions based on regional regulations. The distance is close to the traditional market," said the Head of the Central Lombok Regency DPMPTSP Dalilah in Central Lombok, Friday, as reported by Antara.
He said that in the 25 modern retail areas that were closed, there were no Red and White Village Cooperative outlets that were built, so there was no connection.
The local government implements the legal provisions, namely the Central Lombok Regional Regulation Number 7 of 2021 concerning the Arrangement and Development of People's Markets, Shopping Centers, and Convenience Stores.
"We are locked on this regulation as a legal basis for the arrangement of modern retail, minimarkets, shopping centers, as well as protection for the people's market and local MSMEs," he said.
"We work based on the existing legal basis in accordance with the decree. It has nothing to do with the KDMP," he said.
He said the closure of modern retail certainly has positive and negative impacts, especially for modern retail employees and it is personally understood.
Therefore, his party immediately called the modern retail management to find a solution to the aspirations of hundreds of modern retail employees who were affected by the closure.
"We will coordinate with management and later we hope there will be no layoffs (termination of employment) from management," he said.
He said in responding to the issue of the closure of modern retail, the local government provided two recommendations to the management of modern retail, namely changing the business model to wholesale and rotating employees internally.
"What is closed is 25 points, the number of modern retail in Central Lombok is still hundreds of points. This is the business of the modern retail management itself," he said.
Previously, hundreds of modern retail employees who were affected by the closure carried out a demonstration at the Regent's Office and the Central Lombok DPRD.
In the aspirations conveyed, they demanded that the modern retail be reopened, because if it is still closed, it is threatened with layoffs in the future.
