Perum Bulog absorbed 200 tons of dry pipil corn in the Second Quarter Corn Harvest Raya activity in Tuwiri Wetan Village, Merakurak District, Tuban Regency, East Java.
This step is part of the government's efforts to maintain prices at the farmer level while strengthening the national food supply chain.
The activities initiated by the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri) are a series of the Second Quarter Corn Harvest, groundbreaking of 10 Food Security Warehouses, and the operational launch of 166 Polri SPPG. The event was carried out simultaneously and was attended by the Regional Police and Regional Police throughout Indonesia together with the local government.
In this scheme, Bulog acts as a strategic offtaker that absorbs the harvest of farmers at a price of Rp6,400 per kilogram in Bulog warehouses. This policy is expected to provide market certainty for farmers while maintaining price balance at the producer level.
The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, appreciates the involvement of the National Police in supporting national food security, especially in the commodity of corn.
"There are many memories in various activities in rural areas, I often receive food from people's agricultural products, such as cassava and corn. This further confirms the importance of farmers as the main pillar in building national food sovereignty," said Prabowo in an official statement, Sunday, May 17.
Meanwhile, the President Director of Perum Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, said the absorption in Tuban was part of a larger program. To date, the total absorption of Bulog corn throughout Indonesia has approached 200,000 tons.
Furthermore, Rizal said Bulog had prepared a special warehouse for storing corn with a total capacity of almost 350,000 tons.
In addition, the construction of a food security warehouse by the National Police will also be synergized to increase the storage capacity of corn absorption results.
"The results of the absorption of corn will be redistributed by Bulog through the SPHP Corn program. This program is prepared with a total of 242,000 tons of channels until December 31, 2026 for 5,541 farmers with a poultry population of around 53 million," he said.
Rizal added that the SPHP Corn program is an important instrument for maintaining the affordability of corn feed prices for farmers, especially breeders of laying hens.
"Bulog not only plays a role in absorbing the harvest of farmers, but also maintaining the sustainability of livestock businesses as part of the national food chain," he said.
Rizal said the synergy between Bulog and the National Police in absorbing the corn harvest was a concrete step in strengthening the national food ecosystem.
Upstream, farmers get certainty of absorption at a decent price.
Meanwhile, downstream, farmers get access to more stable feed corn supplies through the stabilization program.
"Bulog always maintains price stabilization from two sides, namely the producer side at the level of corn farmers and the consumer side at the level of farmers. With measured absorption and distribution, the stability of the supply and price of corn can continue to be maintained," he said.
