He added that the government also has no plans to add new tax burdens until the purchasing power of the community is considered strong enough.
"Our position has not changed that we will not impose additional taxes until it is considered good enough, and people's purchasing power is strong enough. That is the main benchmark," said Purbaya in a media briefing, quoted, Sunday, April 26.
He explained that the discussion on the imposition of VAT on toll roads is currently limited to a long-term plan from the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), and will still be further studied by the Ministry of Finance.
The plan is included in the DJP Strategic Plan (Renstra) 2025-2029 as one of the options to expand the state revenue base.
In addition, regarding the tax plan for the super-rich group or High Wealth Individual (HWI), Purbaya said the policy would also not be implemented in the near future because it was still in the discussion stage.
"That is a long-term plan that was made earlier. Even the Secretary-General who recommended this on the homepage (DJP 2025-2029 Strategic Plan). So it's still an old regime. That's why we have a little change so that it's more organized," he said.
Furthermore, Purbaya said that the government currently prioritizes the optimization of existing tax instruments to increase state revenues.
He said that one of the steps taken was to strengthen law enforcement, especially against violations such as inappropriate reporting and under-invoicing practices in exports.
Purbaya also emphasized that he would take action against companies that carried out business activities not in accordance with regulations, including in the steel sector.
"The steel companies that I said were running their business incorrectly. We will chase again," he said.
