JAKARTA - The airline Garuda Indonesia has made Bali as a hub for East Indonesia with international routes to strengthen the regional economic sector including tourism.
"We maximize Denpasar's role as one of the international hubs integrated with the eastern region of Indonesia, especially Papua," said Garuda Indonesia Denpasar Sales Manager Dewa Bagus Rendra Maha Putera as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, April 2.
One of the state-owned airline's efforts is to open a flight route from Denpasar to Jayapura through the operation of the Jakarta-Denpasar-Timika-Jayapura route.
The flight is served four times a week, namely every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from Jakarta, using a Boeing 737-800NG fleet with a capacity of 12 business class seats and 150 economy class seats.
Flight GA-652 departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 21.25 WIB and arrived at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport at 00.20 WITA the next day.
Furthermore, the flight continued at 01.05 WITA to Mozes Kilangin Airport, Timika and arrived at 05.45 WIT, and was flown back to Sentani Airport, Jayapura until it arrived at 07.55 WIT.
Meanwhile, flights from Jayapura are served by GA-653 which operates every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
Flights departed from Sentani Airport at 08.50 WIT to Timika, then continued to Denpasar, and then to Jakarta with an arrival time at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 15.30 WIB.
"The presence of the route is expected to provide a smoother journey for passengers, both foreign tourists and business actors," he added.
He hopes that Bali, as the main gateway for international tourism, can encourage an increase in tourist visits to Papua, as well as make a real contribution to strengthening the local economy.
Dewa Bagus added that his party would continue to evaluate and develop the network adaptively to ensure routes that are relevant to consumer needs.
