Coordinating Minister AHY: President Prabowo is Committed to Providing Decent Homes for Indonesian People

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that President Prabowo Subianto is strong and has a strong commitment to provide decent homes for the community through the three million house construction program.

"He (the President) is firm in his commitment and from the beginning believes that a healthy family starts from a good home, and a capable community starts from a prosperous home," said Coordinating Minister AHY in the Launching of Housing Development in Support of the 3 Million House Program on the assets of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) in the Manggarai Station area, Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Selasam March 17.

AHY stated that the launching of the national housing development program was an important moment in realizing the government's big vision to provide decent housing for the Indonesian people.

He said that the strategic program was part of President Prabowo's commitment who believed that a healthy family started from a good home and a community with the ability to be born from a prosperous residence.

According to AHY, the government has launched a three million house construction program to answer the problem of housing backlog that is still occurring while improving the quality of housing for people who still live in unsuitable houses.

The program is also directed to expand access to decent and affordable housing for the pre-prosperous and low-income communities in various regions of Indonesia.

"This also includes quality because there are still quite a lot of Indonesian families who live or live in houses that are less or not habitable," he said.

Therefore, AHY expressed his appreciation to various parties who have provided support for the implementation of the national housing development program, including PT KAI.

In addition, according to AHY, the construction of people's housing is not only aimed at overcoming the housing backlog, but also has the potential to make a major contribution to national economic growth.

He explained that the housing development sector could create new economic opportunities through the opening of various employment opportunities in various supporting sectors of development.

He added that the development of the housing sector has the potential to drive the growth of at least 180 types of industries related to construction, building materials, to other service sectors.

However, he assessed that the biggest challenge in housing development has always been related to the availability of land that is ready to be used and has a clear legal status.

Therefore, AHY admitted that as a minister who oversees the ATR/BPN Ministry; Ministry of Housing and Settlements; Ministry of Public Works; and Ministry of Transportation, his party continues to strengthen coordination across ministries.

The coordination was carried out in order to present a more integrated housing development and residential area ecosystem and support the sustainable development of urban areas.

AHY emphasized that the government is also developing a vertical housing concept based on Transit Oriented Development (TOD) so that housing development is more efficient and integrated with public transportation systems in urban areas.

At the same place, the Chairman of the Housing Task Force and Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Hashim Djojohadikusumo stated that the 3 million house construction program is an effort to realize Social Justice for All Indonesian People as stated in the fifth principle of Pancasila.

Hashim assessed that the national housing program not only answers the housing needs, but also becomes a concrete step for the government to overcome social inequality that is still felt by some people.

"Now the program that we are witnessing today, we realize today, we are heading for the fifth precept so that our people will really feel the real benefits of the presence of Pancasila as the state ideology," said Hashim.
