JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said the number of people who are expected to travel reached 50.60 percent of the total population of Indonesia or equivalent to around 143.91 million people.

Dudy continued, this figure has decreased by 1.75 percent compared to the results of a survey conducted on Lebaran transportation in 2025, which was around 146 million people.

Even so, he explained, the government together with all transportation stakeholders has prepared various steps to ensure the smooth mobility of the community during the homecoming and return flow of Lebaran this year.

"However, in reality, the number of movements in 2025 actually reached 154 million people. This shows that community mobility during the Eid holiday tends to exceed the number estimated in the survey," said Dudy in a meeting with Commission V of the DPR, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 11.

To anticipate the high mobility, the government has prepared various steps ranging from the readiness of land, sea, and air transportation facilities and infrastructure to crossings.

In addition, the legality of each mode of transportation is also examined.

The government has also prepared a number of stimuli to support the smooth travel of the community, such as providing discounts on airfare, sea vessels, trains, and crossings.

The free homecoming program, work from anywhere (WFA) policy, traffic engineering, provision of additional fleets, and the operational arrangement of freight vehicles are also part of the strategy.

Dudy said the Ministry of Transportation also optimizes digital-based monitoring in the supervision of Lebaran Transportation.

The system includes reporting of nodes and transportation networks, monitoring the movement of facilities, live streaming drones, accident monitoring, to public complaint channels.

"Monitoring also includes weather and early warning from BMKG as well as monitoring 7,159 CCTV in cooperation with the Regional Government, SOEs, and the private sector," he said.

To support the smooth flow to the ferry port, the government has also prepared a layered buffer zone scheme in the Merak Port area. The buffer zone on the toll road will utilize rest areas from KM 13, KM 43, to KM 63.

In addition, a port buffer zone is also prepared in the Merak Port area, Indah Kiat, BBJ, and Ciwandan, as well as several points on the arterial road to prevent vehicle congestion to the port.

The government has also prepared five crossing routes from Java Island to Sumatra during the 2026 Lebaran Transportation period, namely Merak-Bakauheni, Ciwandan-PT Wijaya Karya Beton, Ciwandan-Bakauheni, BBJ Bojonegara-BBJ Muara Pilu, and PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera-Panjang as a backup route.

Meanwhile, for crossings from Java to Bali and West Nusa Tenggara, the Ketapang-Gilimanuk and Jangkar-Lembar routes are prepared.

"We also see the need to anticipate potential restrictions on the operational capacity of the crossing port from Java Island to Bali due to the Nyepi and Idulfitri celebrations at the same time," said Dudy.
