JAKARTA - The Surabaya-Gempol Toll Road, Gempol Segment (KM 769+450 to KM 772+650) will be upgraded from two lanes to three lanes.

Until the 25th week of implementation in the period from 16-22 February 2026, the progress of the lane addition project has reached 59.62 percent, surpassing the planned target of 58.82 percent with a positive deviation of +0.799 percent.

The project carried out by PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT) is part of efforts to maintain the reliability of toll road infrastructure to support the smooth mobility of the community and the distribution of logistics in the East Java region.

The addition of lane capacity is expected to anticipate the growth of traffic volume as well as improve the aspects of safety and comfort of road users.

Senior Manager Representative Office 3 Jalan Tol Surabaya-Gempol Agus Susilo said that the achievement of progress beyond the target was the result of intensive coordination in the field.

"We ensure that every stage of work runs according to the technical specifications and the schedule has been planned. Although there are challenges such as traffic management arrangements, dynamic weather conditions and limited work space, the project team still maintains productivity by prioritizing safety and traffic flow," said Agus quoted from a written statement, Tuesday, February 24.

The scope of work in the project includes the construction of concrete pavement, aggregate foundation layer, drainage system, bridge structure, plate construction on the pile slab, and installation of signs and road markings.

Currently, structural work such as drafting, construction of pile caps, and installation of pile slabs has entered the next stage.

The capacity improvement project has been implemented since September 1, 2025 with a duration of 270 calendar days and is targeted to be completed in May 2026.

Meanwhile, Vice President Corporate Secretary & Legal PT JTT Ria Marlinda Paallo emphasized that the project is part of the company's strategy to strengthen regional connectivity in East Java.

"This lane capacity increase is not only focused on adding traffic space, but also improving the quality of services as a whole. We are committed to providing reliable, safe and sustainable infrastructure to support economic growth and community mobility in East Java," he said.

Ria added that quality control of work and the implementation of Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) aspects were the main concerns during construction.

"Quality control of materials, routine inspection of work, and securing of work areas are carried out strictly to ensure that the results of construction meet standards and ensure the safety of workers and road users," he explained.

JTT apologized for the potential inconvenience during the work and appealed to road users to remain vigilant, obey traffic signs and follow the instructions of officers around the work site.
