JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) plans to rebuild the Tanjung Market in Jember Regency, East Java.

This was confirmed by Minister PU Dody Hanggodo when he reviewed the Tanjung Market in Jember Regency, Sunday, February 22.

Dody assessed that the condition of the facilities and infrastructure of the Tanjung Market was no longer adequate. The building, which has been standing since 1973, faces a number of problems, including the management of waste is not optimal, the flow of water and drainage system is not good, and the arrangement of the space requires a thorough overhaul.

"From the results of the review, this market seems to be beyond just being revitalized. It must be built anew," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Monday, February 23.

He said, his party together with the local government is preparing a detailed engineering design (DED) so that the infrastructure of the market that will be built later will be the authority of the Jember Regency Government (Pemkab).

"We have prepared DED with the Regent and his team so that the market we build later is the facade of the Jember Regency Government, not the facade of people from Jakarta. Local wisdom must be visible in the architecture of the Tanjung Traditional Market," he said.

According to Dody, the construction of the new market is targeted to start as soon as possible this year, in line with the completion of the DED.

"This year we started. Hopefully DED can be completed this year, so that construction can immediately begin," he said.

For this reason, Dody encouraged the Jember Regency Government to immediately carry out socialization to traders regarding the development plan, including the preparation of temporary relocation locations.

This is important so that the economic activities of traders continue to run during the construction.

"I have conveyed to the Regent that he should start socializing with traders, then where they will be placed when construction takes place. They must not stop their economic life," said Dody.

Through the redevelopment of Tanjung Market, the PU Ministry is committed to presenting a more representative, healthy, safe, and comfortable people's market, as well as being a driver of local economic growth and strengthening the architectural identity based on the local wisdom of Jember Regency.

Tanjung is a market of pride for the people of Jember which is located in a strategic area of the city center, between Jalan Trunojoyo (south), Jalan Untung Suropati (north), Jalan Dr. Wahidin (east) and Jalan Samanhudi (west).

With an area of approximately 25,105 square meters, Tanjung is the only major class traditional market in Jember Regency that serves the needs of urban and rural communities.
