JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the construction of 1,301 residential houses for disaster-affected people in Sumatra so that they can be immediately occupied ahead of the upcoming Eid.

The housing was built with a modular method that allows the construction process to be faster on site with limited access.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the provision of post-disaster housing was part of President Prabowo's direction to ensure that recovery not only focuses on infrastructure, but also people's lives.

"This residence is not just a building, but part of the recovery of people's lives. The President's instructions are clear, we must ensure that people feel safe and comfortable again," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Friday, February 20.

As of February 9, 2026 at 15.00 WIB, the average progress of residential construction has reached 47 percent and continues to be pushed to complete no later than February 28, 2026.

Of the total 1,301 housing units built by the Strategic Infrastructure Directorate General of the Ministry of PU, 1,056 units are in Aceh Province and 245 units in North Sumatra Province.

In Aceh, development shows progress in a number of areas.

Aceh Tamiang Regency Phase I has reached 100 percent of 84 units, while Phase II has reached 83.72 percent of 156 units.

In Bener Meriah Regency, the construction of 228 units recorded a progress of 55.7 percent, while in North Aceh Regency, 360 units were at a progress of 48.1 percent.

Then, in Pidie Jaya Regency, 168 units were at 19.15 percent progress and in Subulussalam City, 60 units with a progress of 4.91 percent.

Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province, the development is focused on Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency, with 245 units spread across 21 blocks. The development progress at the location has reached 28.6 percent.

Acceleration of work in the field is carried out by adjusting weather conditions. Structural and exterior work is carried out until evening when the weather is supportive,

Meanwhile, interior work continued during the rain, so that construction productivity was maintained.

In the construction of the residence, the PU Ministry uses Modular Lite (MOLI) technology.

The modular construction method allows installation without heavy equipment, speeds up the construction process and minimizes construction waste.

The housing is designed with an earthquake-resistant structure and can be installed and dismantled without producing waste.

The PU Ministry targets that all units can be immediately handed over, so that people affected by the disaster can return to a more decent home before Lebaran.
