SURABAYA - The General Electric Vehicle Charging Station 2 (SPKLU R2) in several areas such as Jember, Malang, and Gresik is now operated to support the electric rickshaw program. This step was taken by PT PLN (Persero) Distribution Unit (UID) East Java (Jatim).

"PLN is ready to support in terms of electricity infrastructure so that these electric rickshaws can be optimally utilized by drivers," said General Manager of PLN UID East Java Ahmad Mustaqir in Surabaya, Saturday, January 14, as reported by ANTARA.

He said PLN continued to be committed to providing better electricity services, including through the operation of the R2 SPKLU because synergy and collaboration are the key to fully supporting the success of government programs.

Moreover, he said that this step was in line with PLN's commitment to supporting the energy transition through the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem.

The inauguration of the R2 SPKLU in Jember was marked by holding the first electric becak convoy as an effort to encourage the use of electric vehicles and support the transition to green energy.

The electric becak convoy was combined with various educational and social activities such as socialization of the use of SPKLU through the purchase of tokens on the PLN Mobile application, the delivery of food aid and safety helmets to 50 becak drivers, and the implementation of an electric becak convoy around Jember City.

The activity aims to introduce electric rickshaws as a mode of transportation that is cost-effective, light in energy use, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

PLN also encourages similar activities in Malang, Gresik and Situbondo because the presence of electric pedicabs is considered not only to bring innovation in terms of technology but also to provide real benefits for the comfort of the city and the tourist experience.

Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat assessed that vehicles without noise and emissions would provide a different experience for tourists who travel around the historic area.

"Electric becak makes heritage tourism more comfortable and aesthetic because it is free of pollution," he said.

Similarly, Gresik Regent Fandi Ahmad expressed his appreciation for President Prabowo's attention to small communities in the region, including through electric pedicabs because they support their work so that it is lighter, safer, and still productive.

"This program is very helpful for becak drivers in Gresik, most of whom are elderly so that they can work more lightly, safely, and remain productive," said Fandi.

The recipient of assistance in Jember, Sidiq, said he was very happy to receive an electric rickshaw assistance and the R2 SPKLU facility because it made it easier for him to make a living as a rickshaw puller who has been running for 30 years.

"I have been a rickshaw puller for 30 years, it was manual, it was a mess, after getting the electric rickshaw aid it was better," said Sidiq.
