KKP prepares training for fishermen in the Red and White Fishing Village

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP) program through a series of training aimed at increasing the capacity of coastal communities.

Head of the Marine and Fisheries Human Resources Development and Extension Agency (BPPSDM KP) I Nyoman Radiarta said this training not only focuses on fishermen's skills in catching fish, but also includes the management of catch results to marketing.

"Every development of the Red and White Fishermen's Village has a fishermen's hall," said Nyoman, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 26.

Nyoman explained that this hall serves as a learning and collaboration container between fishermen, cooperative managers, and fisheries extensionists.

He said that the extension will identify the crucial needs of the community, so that the training material can be adjusted to local conditions and challenges.

Nyoman added that the training prepared by the KKP not only targeted fishermen, but also included strengthening the capacity of managers of the Red and White Village/Village Cooperative.

The strengthening of this cooperative is seen as an integral part of the Red and White Fishermen's Village program, so that the management of catch and marketing can run more effectively and sustainably.

Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih is a strategic government program to empower coastal communities while encouraging local economic growth.

This program not only focuses on physical development, but also presents various supporting infrastructure that is crucial for daily fishing activities.

The government ensures that KNMP is equipped with basic facilities such as piers, roads, drainage, and electric lighting.

In addition, fishing villages will also have cold storage or cold storage, ice factories, fishing workshops, logistics kiosks, and fishing fuel filling stations (SPBN).

KKP said the first phase of the KNMP development targeted 65 points throughout the Indonesian coast.

Furthermore, the second phase will add 35 points, before being expanded to 1,000 construction locations by 2029.

KKP targets 35 locations for the Red and White Fishing Village to be completed by the end of January 2026, except for several points affected by disasters with a deadline for completion until February 2026.
