JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) through its subsidiary, PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (Gagas), officially operates the Mother Station (MS) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Medan City.
President Director of PT Gagas Energi Indonesia Santiaji Gunawan said the operation of this facility was carried out after all stages of the commissioning of natural gas supply were completed and became part of strengthening natural gas services in North Sumatra Province through the Beyond Pipeline scheme.
"MS CNG Medan is being built starting in June 2025 and is located at Simpang Kantor, Martubung, Medan City, on PGN-owned land of 1,357 square meters," he said, Thursday, January 22.
He added, this facility has a distribution capacity of up to 1 MMSCFD which is intended to meet the needs of the industrial, commercial, and MSME gas sectors in the North Sumatra region, especially for customers who are outside the reach of the gas pipeline network. RSU Haji Medan became the first customer from this commissioning.
"This facility is presented to answer the needs of non-piped customers while expanding access to cleaner and more efficient energy in the North Sumatra region," continued Santiaji.
Before being operated commercially, he said, the MS CNG Medan has gone through the commissioning process to ensure that all systems and equipment function according to safety standards and operational reliability. This stage includes testing of main equipment, safety systems, and verification of technical conformity with the established design and procedures.
"With the completion of this process, MS CNG Medan is declared ready to operate fully," added Santiaji.
Currently, Gagas distributes natural gas in the form of CNG through 15 CNG filling stations and 4 Mobile Refueling Units spread across seven provinces. The presence of MS CNG Medan is expected to strengthen the distribution of natural gas nationally as well as support the energy transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
"The utilization of natural gas through CNG is one of the solutions for customers to switch from more emission-intensive fuels to more environmentally friendly energy. This is in line with the commitment of PGN and Gagas in supporting the national energy transition and reducing carbon emissions," concluded Santiaji.
