JAKARTA - The Legal Team of PT Bososi Pratama submitted a letter of request for justice to the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission (Kompolnas) following the death of Novia Catur Iswanto, Legal Manager of PT Bososi Pratama, who was undergoing an investigation into the mining case.
The lawyer for PT Bososi Pratama, Sasriponi B. Ranggolawe, said Novia died after experiencing prolonged pressure during the investigation process with the number LI/192/VII/2025/Tipidter dated July 17, 2025.
"Today we have submitted a letter to the Chairman of Kompolnas, Mr. Jimly Asshiddiqie, to demand justice for the death of the late Novia Catur Iswanto. We strongly suspect that criminalization is triggered by the interests of the mining mafia," said Ranggolawe.
According to Ranggolawe, this case started from a legal dispute between PT Bososi Pratama and PT Palmina Adhikarya Sejati (PAL).
He said PT PAL did not receive a court decision that had the force of law, in which PT Bososi Pratama was declared the legitimate party through three cassation decisions and one Supreme Court Review (PK) decision decided by 12 supreme judges.
On the other hand, Ranggolawe accused illegal mining activities still taking place in the area of the mining business permit (IUP) of PT Bososi Pratama. The activity is suspected to have been carried out by PT PAL without permission and without a valid legal standing.
"They mine without a permit, but they seem to be left alone. In fact, it is suspected that there is a permit from law enforcement officials and related parties in the energy and investment sectors," he said.
He added that illegal mining practices have the potential to cause losses to the state of up to Rp1 trillion.
This condition is considered not only to be detrimental to the country, but also to create legal uncertainty and an unhealthy business climate in the mining sector.
Ranggolawe emphasized that although legally PT Bososi Pratama has won all lawsuits up to the PK level, the implementation in the field has not been fully implemented.
One of them, data on the Minerba One Data Indonesia (MODI) system is said to have not been updated, thus opening a loophole for illegal mining practices.
"We hope that Kompolnas can take firm action against the officers who are suspected of being involved or allowing it. Consistent law enforcement is very important to protect legitimate investments and eradicate the mining mafia," he said.
This case adds to the spotlight on national mining governance, especially regarding legal certainty, permit supervision, and the government's commitment to eradicating illegal mining practices that harm the state and law-abiding business actors.
