Wamen ESDM Assures Continued Import of Fuel from the US

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung ensures that the Indonesian government remains committed to importing crude oil and fuel oil (BBM) from the United States (US).

For your information, the import of these fuels and crude is a trade tariff negotiation agreement between Indonesia and the US.

"We from the (Ministry of) Energy and Mineral Resources, what we have committed to import from the US will still be what we will try," Yuliot told the media, Friday, December 12.

Yuliot added that the continuation of the meeting was still being negotiated between the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy and the United States representative.

"So later the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy will invite to sit together with all related ministries/institutions, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources," continued Yuliot.

Previously, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs confirmed that the process of negotiating Indonesia's trade tariffs with the United States (US) was still ongoing.

Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Haryo Limanseto, said that there were no special issues in the discussion, and the dynamics that emerged during the negotiation process were normal.

"Indonesia and the United States trade negotiations are still in process, there are no specific problems in the negotiations, the dynamics in the negotiation process are normal," he said in a written statement, Wednesday, December 10.

He added that the Indonesian government hopes that the trade agreement can be immediately resolved and provide benefits for both countries.

Previously, the negotiation process was reported to be at risk of failing after the US claimed that Indonesia had withdrawn a number of commitments that had been agreed upon in July.

Reuters reported that an unnamed US official said Indonesia was no longer sticking to the agreement it had reached.

"They are reneging on what we agreed to in July," the official said without giving details on which specific commitments were at issue.

In July 2025, Indonesia and the US reached an initial agreement that was considered beneficial for both parties, namely Indonesia expressed its willingness to remove tariffs on more than 99 percent of US products as well as eliminate non-tariff barriers faced by American companies.
