JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) will again auction 7 to 8 oil and gas working areas by the end of this month.

The Director General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Laode Sulaeman, said this step was one of the government's efforts to complete the 75 WK oil and gas auction target that had been previously announced.

"In December we will add more," said Laode to the media crew, quoted Wednesday, December 10.

Laode said, the acceleration of oil and gas investment must be followed by the availability of new reserves so that exploration activities can continue.

Moreover, he continued, the government has targeted to auction off 75 oil and gas WKs and become a strategic step to strengthen national energy security.

He added that the government needs to ensure that every acceleration of the development of the upstream oil and gas industry has adequate reserves.

"Well, so we did finish 75 WK, that's the key. The key after the acceleration, there must be new reserves, so the term bottle must have its contents," added Laode.

Just so you know, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has also prepared 75 oil and gas blocks spread across Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua, and offshore areas.

All of these blocks are ready to be developed through a regular assignment or auction mechanism.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung said that currently there are 9 oil and gas blocks that have been appointed to be developed by business entities, as well as a number of other blocks that will follow.

"Our shared vision is clear, in 2029, Indonesia will achieve the production target of 1 million barrels of oil per day, strengthen national energy sovereignty, and encourage sustainable development," said Yuliot at the Grand Launching of Indonesia Oil and Gas Exploration in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 25.

To support the achievement of this target, the Government highlighted the large national oil and gas potential which reached 128 oil and gas basins that have been identified throughout Indonesia.

Yuliot said, of the 128 oil and gas basins that have been identified, only 20 have been developed, the remaining 108 are areas rich in data and opportunities.

"In 2025 and 2026, the Government allocates a significant budget and empowers the Geological Agency to conduct further 2D and 3D surveys, which pave the way for exploration to open potential resources," said Yuliot.
