A Total Of 644,556 Foreign Tourists Explore Indonesia By Train Throughout 2025

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI noted that 644,556 foreign tourists (tourists) used long-distance rail services to explore Indonesia from January to November 2025.

"This figure grew 4.27 percent compared to the same period in 2024 of 618,137 foreign tourists," said KAI VP Corporate Communication Anne Purba in an official statement, Sunday, December 7.

Anne said the spike showed the train was increasingly becoming the choice of tourists looking for safe, comfortable, and providing an authentic local experience.

"In November 2025 there were 42,596 foreign tourists traveling by train," he said.

Furthermore, Anne said that Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Semarang are still favorite departure points.

"Meanwhile, Cirebon is showing a significant increase thanks to its historical wealth, culinary, and cultural destinations," he explained.

The 10 highest tourist departure stations in November 2025 are Gambir with 7,244 passengers. Then, Yogyakarta with 5,979 passengers. Then, Bandung with 3,936 passengers. Furthermore, Pasar Senen with 2,596 passengers, and Surabaya Gubeng with 2,076 passengers

Then, Semarang Tawang with 1,774 passengers. Then, Surabaya Pasar Turi with 1,230 passengers. Furthermore, Malang with 1,208 passengers. Then, Cirebon with 986 passengers and Solo Balapan with 888 passengers.

Anne said, the increasing interest of foreign tourists traveling by train has had a broad impact on the community.

The increasing number of foreign tourists also drives the local economy and opens opportunities for MSMEs around the station. Trains provide a warm and inclusive travel experience so that many tourists feel closer to Indonesian culture," said Anne.

Anne menegaskan KAI akan terus memperkuat layanan dan meningkatkan integrasi antarmoda agar jalur rel semakin menjadi bagian dari ekosistem pariwisata nasional.

“KAI optimistis kereta api akan terus menjadi pilihan wisatawan mancanegara dan berkontribusi positif bagi pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia,” tutup Anne.

Anne emphasized that KAI will continue to strengthen services and increase intermodal integration so that rail lines will become more part of the national tourism ecosystem.
