PT PLN North Sumatra's Main Distribution Unit (UID) restored electricity supply in disaster-affected areas by accelerating post-flood and landslide network improvements, which hit the North Sumatra Province area.

"Residents who have returned to enjoying electricity services are areas that have been declared safe, both from puddles and other potential electrical hazards," said North Sumatra PLN Communications and TJSL Manager UID Surya Sahputra Sitepu as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 29.

Surya said that until Saturday at 05.00 WIB, his party had recovered electricity supply for 214,267 customers who had previously been affected by the blackout.

The recovery is because the area affected by the disaster has been declared safe for electricity supply as a principle that public safety is the main thing.

"All stages are carried out with strict security to ensure networks that return to operation remain safe and do not cause repeated disturbances," he said.

Surya realized that there are still many locations where water has been flooded and access has been cut off, so it is not possible to be electrified.

Coupled with electricity infrastructure, including nine affected substations, namely Denai, Labuhan, Labuhan Angin, Lamhotma, Mabar, Payaya Pasir, Payageli, Martabe, and Sibolga.

"In addition, many electricity poles collapsed or were tilted due to flooding and two high-voltage network towers that were also affected by landslides, thus requiring further handling of the structure and cable lines to accelerate service recovery," he said.

To accelerate recovery in the field, PLN synergizes with local governments and BPBD, TNI/Polri, sub-district/village officials, as well as volunteers and the local community.

This collaboration is important to open road access, clean the affected areas, and secure recovery locations.

"We are grateful for the support of all elements in the field. This recovery is not only a matter of technical electricity, but a joint effort so that people can return to enjoying electricity safely and reliably," he said.
