JAKARTA - Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso asked regional heads in Indonesia to strengthen supervision of prices for basic commodities ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays by coordinating intensively with suppliers and distributors.

"We ask each region to continue to monitor price developments, especially facing this Christmas and New Year, regarding supply, regarding prices and continuing to coordinate with the center with distributors and also with suppliers in their respective regions," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 27.

He conveyed that the government must be able to guarantee that the supply price, distribution of goods and basic needs of the community during the holiday period runs smoothly.

The Trade Minister said that his party monitors commodity price movements every day through the Basic Needs Market Monitoring System (SP2KP), and appreciates regional heads who support strengthening the system.

SP2KP, said the Minister of Trade, was also used as a reference basis for goods prices by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and used in inflation control meetings.

Furthermore, the Minister of Trade conveyed that the Award for the Consumer Protection Award and the UPTP III Public Consultation Forum which was held by his party this Thursday, was a forum for strengthening coordination between the central and regional governments to ensure that the prices of basic commodities ahead of Christmas and the new year were under control.

In the event, his party also gave awards to a number of regions for their concern for consumer protection, measuring order, market regulations, and national standard people's market management.

The Trade Minister hopes that the award can encourage improving market quality, public services, as well as protecting and empowering consumers in the years to come.

Previously, the Government prepared a series of massive discount programs to encourage public consumption during the Christmas and New Year periods.

In a press conference at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Jakarta, Wednesday (26/11), the Minister of Trade Budi Santoso said that three shopping campaigns would be held from December to early January, in collaboration with various retail associations and industry players.

The first program is National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas) which will be held on 10-16 December 2025.

This activity was held with the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA) and became an annual discount momentum for online shopping platforms.

The second discount program, the government held a shopping campaign in Indonesia Aja (BINA Indonesia) from 18 December 2025 to 4 January 2026.

This program involves the Indonesian Shopping Center Retailer & Tenants Association (Hippindo) and the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) to stimulate transactions in national shopping centers and retail during the peak of the holidays.

The third program is Every Purchase is Cheat or EPIC in collaboration with the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo).

"So we are working with Aprindo (Indonesian Retail Entrepreneur Association) to conduct a discount of between 20-80 percent, namely on the date to be launched on December 1, 2025," he said.
