JAKARTA - The Task Force for the Acceleration of Production Improvement/Lifting Migas revealed that 39 companies are interested in establishing partnerships with PT Pertamina (Persero) in managing old fields.

Head of the Oil and Gas Production Improvement Acceleration Task Force, Nanang Abdul Mamaf, said the 39 companies were interested in activation of oil wells that had not produced for a long time.

"There are 39 companies interested in becoming Pertamina's partners for the oil and gas idle well reactivation program, and 19 companies have signed the MoU," said Nanang, quoted Wednesday, November 26.

He explained that actually the handling of idle wells is the task of the Working Group 2 in the auspices of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Production Improvement/Lifting Oil and Gas. He explained that one of the workings included the task of reactivateping 2,500 idle wells throughout Indonesia.

He added that the pokja is also responsible for handling fields whose development plans or Plan of Development (POD) have stalled, to the disclosure which has not yet been developed.

In addition to pokja 2, there are also pokja 3 which is tasked with overseeing the reactivation of idle oil and gas wells, including 2,500 wells handled by work group 2.

"Pokja 2 includes leading the preparation of new policies, Permen ESDM Number 14 of 2025 concerning cooperation in block management to increase oil and gas production. This policy regulates operations and technology in the oil and gas idle field, to community wells," explained Nanang.

Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) reported that Indonesia had 4,500 unmanaged wells or idle wells.

The Director of Upstream Oil and Gas Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ariana Soemanto, said that of the 4,500 wells, 4,200 wells belonged to Pertamina. With so many wells, he said, they will be reactivated by the KKKS.

"Of the 4,500 wells, the majority belong to Pertamina. There are 1,700 wells that will be executed by Pertamina and 2,500 by Pertamina with a cooperation contract," said Ariana at IPA Convex 2025.

He added, in the roadmap belonging to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, there are 500 oil wells that will be auctioned by Pertamina in the period 2025 to 2026, then in 2027 and 2028 2,000 wells will be tendered.
