JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) targets the export value of shrimp products from Indonesia to reach US$1.3 billion next year.

Head of the KKP's Marine and Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (BPPMHKP) Ishartini is optimistic that there will still be an increase in commodity exports even though previously there was an issue of Cesium-137 contamination which disrupted exports.

"Next year the target is normal again like last year. Last year it was 1.3 billion US dollars, next year it could be 1.5 billion US dollars," Ishartini said at a press conference at the KKP office, Jakarta, Thursday, November 6.

Ishartini did not deny that there had been a decrease in the price of shrimp due to the findings of the Cs-137 contamination.

However, he said, after the KKP first exported shrimp to the US on October 31, now the price has risen again.

"As soon as we released the export, the price had risen again. I don't know, yes, if (the decline) was the price. But now it's back to normal," he said.

Based on KKP data, shrimp exports for the January-September 2025 period reached 1.3 billion US dollars, up 17.5 percent from the same period last year.

This commodity is the largest in the fisheries sector.

Then followed by tuna and skipjack at 763.51 million US dollars, up 2.8 percent from the same period in 2024.

Furthermore, squid, sotong, and octopus amounted to 574.75 million US dollars, but it fell 2.4 percent.

The decline was also experienced by crab and crab commodities with a value of 377.65 US dollars, down 4.6 percent and seaweed of 233.86 million US dollars, which fell 8.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

Director of Business Empowerment of the Directorate General of Strengthening Competitiveness for Marine Products and Fisheries of the KKP Catur Sarwanto said, until the third quarter of 2025, the United States (US) was the largest export destination for the fisheries sector in the January-September 2025 period.

In that period, the export value was recorded at 1.49 billion US dollars, up 8.4 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

"In the third quarter (2025) we have exported 4.52 billion US dollars, the increase is 6.7 percent from last year," he said.
