Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita inaugurated the Indonesian Footwear Industry Empowerment Center (BPIPI) in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, Tuesday, November 4.
Agus said BPIPI functions to improve competence, standardization and competitiveness of the national footwear industry.
The BPIPI function is in line with the New Strategy for National Industrialization (SBIN) which is designed as a blueprint for Indonesia's industrialization.
"The construction of the BPIPI Building in Sidoarjo Regency is a real step by the Ministry of Industry in advancing the domestic industry," Agus said in a written statement, Wednesday, November 5.
Agus explained that the BPIPI Building has implemented the Green Building (BGH). The construction of the BPIPI Building aims to create environmentally friendly buildings and sustainable benefits through the use of energy saving, waste treatment, air quality and natural lighting.
"It is hoped that this building can provide optimal benefits by creating a healthy work environment, friendly co-working space, comfortable workshops, so that it can support public service innovation and increase creativity in the development of footwear IKM products," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, said that the construction of the BPIPI building began from August 2024 to September 2025.
The building was built on an area of 14,044 square meters and is currently in the process of fulfilling the requirements for a Functional Feasibility Certificate (SLF) and the calculation of the determination of the Green Building (GBH) within the next six months.
With the new building, Reni continued, the Ministry of Industry is increasingly optimistic that BPIPI will provide public service innovations supported through six main services, namely technical assistance for footwear IKM; quality system assistance; footwear testing; business incubator; Indonesia Footwear Network; and professional certification.
"We mention the BPIPI service as an inclusive part of the plan to implement SBIN initiated by the Minister of Industry. BPIPI is present as an enabler factor for the country's footwear industry for the development of innovation & product standardization, increased competence of industrial human resources and the development of national footwear ecosystem networks," he concluded.
To note, based on BPS data, the number of skin industries, skin goods and small-scale footwear was recorded at 53,333 business units with an absorption of 159,454 workers.
