JAKARTA - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is increasing the preparedness of the ship's fleet by strengthening safety systems, risk mitigation, and track coordination to deal with potential extreme weather from November 2025 to February 2026.

"This anticipatory step is carried out in line with the commemoration of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the peak of the rainy season in most parts of Indonesia," said ASDP President Director Heru Widodo as quoted in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 5.

He emphasized that the company has prepared various steps to ensure the safety of service users remains a top priority, especially during the dynamic weather period.

"We are committed to providing services that are not only reliable, but also guarantee the safety and comfort of the community. Every trip must take place safely, including when facing extreme weather," said Heru.

BMKG predicts that the peak of the rainy season will occur first in the western region of Indonesia from November to December 2025, then switch to the southern and eastern regions from January to February 2026.

Surface current activity around Merak Port in early November also showed an increase, with a speed of 32 103 cm/s, signaling the need for additional vigilance in the field.

Meanwhile, ASDP Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin added that ASDP has prepared various anticipatory steps in the four main branches of Merak, Bakauheni, Ketapang, and Gilimanuk starting from the readiness of operational support tugboats, increasing the readiness of fleets and port facilities, to strengthening communication and information systems.

"We are intensely coordinating with BMKG to monitor port weather conditions and crossing routes on a regular basis," said Shelvy.

In addition, ASDP also establishes close coordination with regulators, such as Syahbandar and BPTD, so that every decision-making, especially regarding port open-close operations, can be carried out quickly and coordinated for the sake of mutual safety.

Shelvy added that safety is a shared responsibility between operators and service users. For this reason, the public is advised to be more alert to extreme weather conditions, always follow the directions of officers both at the port and on the ship, and not force themselves to travel if conditions are not possible.

ASDP understands that many service users want to arrive on time, but safety must still be a priority. The ship's travel decision is entirely under the authority of the regulator, in this case Syahbandar, which issued a Sailing Approval Letter (SPB).

"ASDP will always comply with these provisions for the sake of mutual security," he said.

Shelvy also reminded service users to continue to monitor the latest weather information and comply with the officer's directives while in the port area and on the ship.

"With a strong collaboration between operators, regulators, and the community, ASDP is committed to maintaining smooth mobility of people across crossings to remain safe, orderly, and comfortable during the extreme weather period," said Shelvy.
