JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) officially launched the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) Tap In & Out feature for five modes of transportation in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas.

"First, the launch of QRIS Tap In Out in five Jabodetabek modes of transportation," said Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo at the Indonesian Digital Economy Festival (FEKDI) and Indonesia Fintech Summit & Expo (IFSE) 2025 on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

The five modes of transportation that now support the payment system for QRIS Tap In & Out include the Indonesian Commuter Train (KCI / KRL), Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jakarta and Jabodetabek, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), and TransJakarta.

The QRIS Tap feature is a national QR code-based payment innovation that allows users to make transactions simply by attaching a card or device to the payment machine.

This technology utilizes a Near Field Communication (NFC) system that is integrated with devices such as Electronic Data Capture (EDC) or QRIS-NFC-based payment machines.

Previously, Perry said, the use of QRIS Tap was presented to make it easier for the public to make transactions faster and more practical. In QRIS Tap, users no longer need to scan the QR code manually.

"This is a new innovation. If we make a QRIS transaction, so far we have scanned it first, now without a scan it is enough, we will be affixed 0.3 seconds later," Perry said at the launch of QRIS Tap at the Bundaran HI MRT Station, Central Jakarta, Friday, March 14.

Perry said that the QRIS Tap payment method can be used on phones that have near field communication (NFC) on their phones. Once the NFC is activated, users can immediately attach the phone to the tap machine at the MRT stations.

"This service can be used by people who have NFC technology devices, by using a source of credit facility savings or server based electronic money at payment service companies that support QRIS Tap. So the important thing is that the money is there, later in the account, yes," explained Perry.
