Flying To Malaysia, Minister Of Trade Budi Accompanied Prabowo At The 47th ASEAN Summit

JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso will make a working visit to Malaysia to accompany President Prabowo Subianto to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit (KTT).

The event was at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 25 to 28 May 2025.

Budi said the 47th ASEAN Summit was a strategic forum for ASEAN leaders. The forum is a forum for discussion to strengthen regional economic synergy and cooperation, face global challenges, and encourage inclusive and sustainable economic integration in the Southeast Asia region.

"I will accompany the President in a series of ASEAN's 47th Summit activities which will be held in Malaysia tomorrow. Through this forum, Indonesia wants to ensure that regional economic development takes place inclusive and sustainable," Budi said in an official statement, quoted on Saturday, October 25.

Budi also revealed that Indonesia's commitment is in line with the theme "ASEAN Chairship 2025", namely "Inclusiveness and Sustainability".

This theme reflects the determination of ASEAN member countries to ensure equitable economic growth, as well as answer global challenges such as climate change, development gaps, and digital transformation.

According to Budi, this theme is a shared commitment in strengthening regional resilience.

Indonesia fully supports the implementation of the ASEAN Summit with the spirit of inclusiveness and sustainability. ASEAN wants to build an area that is more resilient and adaptive, prioritizing economic progress that is in line with environmental sustainability and community welfare," said Budi.

In addition to accompanying the president on the main agenda, Budi is also scheduled to attend a number of other ASEAN meetings, including the ASEAN Joint Foreign and Economic Ministers Meeting and bilateral meetings with partner countries.

Budi will also sign two important documents on the sidelines of the summit meeting, namely the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) 3.0 Upgrade Protocol and The Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).

The signing is clear evidence of ASEAN's commitment and synergy in dealing with the latest developments in the global situation.

"We hope that this summit will be an important momentum to strengthen the synergy between member countries in facing various global challenges while at the same time encouraging inclusive and sustainable economic growth," he said.

"In addition, this summit is also expected to open up new opportunities for increased trade and investment that provide real benefits for all people in the region," he continued.
