JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman claims that the agricultural sector is now increasingly in demand by young people. This is reflected in the 27,000 millennials who chose to become farmers.
Amran said that young farmers are now able to achieve much higher income, namely an average of Rp. 15 million to Rp. 20 million per month.
"They are from Merauke, from Kalimantan and Aceh, the average income is Rp. 15 million to Rp. 20 million," Amran said during a press conference quoted from the Ministry of Agriculture's YouTube, Wednesday, October 22.
According to Amran, this trend comes in line with the massive transformation towards modern agriculture carried out by the government of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
"We provide facilities, we provide great agricultural equipment for them and later, God willing, it will be sustainable," he said.
Amran said that the involvement of young people in the agricultural sector will increase in line with the government's plan to produce new fields covering an area of 3 million hectares (ha).

Through a cluster-based approach and the application of high technology, Amran said, the agricultural sector is claimed to be more efficient, and productive, so that it is attractive to the younger generation.
"Why is the increase in the number of agricultural sectors? The first is that we transform traditional agriculture to modern. We build a plan of 3 million hectares. We make this 3 million hectares equal to developed countries, such as America and China," Amran said.
