JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in trading Friday, October 17, 2025, is estimated to have the potential to strengthen against the United States (US) dollar.

Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong predicts the rupiah will strengthen against the US dollar which continues to be depressed.

He added that pressure on the US dollar was caused by statements by a number of Fed officials who returned to dovish, as well as growing concerns about the potential closure of government (shutdown) and tensions in relations with China.

"The rupiah is expected to strengthen against the dollar which continues to be depressed following several Fed officials who are back in the dovish tone. Shutdown and tension with China also pressed the US dollar," he told VOI, Friday, October 17.

Meanwhile, Lukman added that market participants are still waiting for investment realization and clarity data regarding economic stimulus.

"So for now, external factors play a role," he explained.

Lukman projects that the movement of the rupiah on Friday, October 17, will move in the range of Rp. 16,500 per US dollar to Rp. 16,600 per US dollar.
