Sido Muncul Gives Free Cataract Operations At Unpad Jatinangor Hospital

PT Industri Jamu and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk (Sido Muncul) held a social service (baksos) through a free cataract operation centered at Padjadjaran University Hospital (Unpad), Jatinangor, Sumedang Regency, West Java, on Thursday, September 30.

Director of PT Industri Jamu and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk, Dr. (HC) Irwan Hidayat said that so far the company that is struggling in the herbal medicine industry has carried out 57 thousand free cataracts since 2011.

"We have operated from 57,000 eyes, and here 150 eyes. Sido Muncul from 2011 has carried out free cataract operations, his goal as an entrepreneur, we want to be able to contribute, so do business while wanting to contribute," said Irwan.

In addition, the plan is that the free cataract eye operation program from Sido Muncul will continue and reach other regions in Indonesia.

"Hopefully our assistance can be useful. We will also carry out cataract operations next month in Halmahera, together with the Governor of North Maluku," said Irwan.

On this occasion, Irwan also hopes that the presence of this free cataract operation can help and reduce blindness in Indonesia.

"With this activity, we hope to improve the standard of living while reducing the blindness rate of people with cataracts, especially in the Jatinangor area and its surroundings. I also urge people to get rid of the perception that cataract operations are something scary, because the only way to recover from cataracts is only with surgery," said Irwan.

Not only eye surgery, during his trip, Sido Muncul has also carried out free lipbing surgery, and provided stunting assistance. In fact, the plan is for Sido Muncul to also help cure People With Mental Disorders (ODGJ).

"For this cataract operation, we collaborated with Perdami, Sido Muncul has been doing it since 2011, then there are cleft lip, then stunting handling assistance, and later we will also enter ODGJ," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Unpad Chancellor, Prof. dr. Arief S. Kartasasmita Sp.M(K)., MM, M.Kes., Ph.D revealed that collaboration between academics and companies is a positive thing. Moreover, he continued, this agenda is clear evidence of Sido Muncul's concern.

"Alhamdulillah, many people have received a lot of benefits, hopefully this can be proof of our concern for Sido Muncul, Padjadjaran University, and the Unpad Alumni Association in solving community problems, especially cataract problems," said Arief.

"This is also hopefully a contribution from Unpad Hospital together with Sido Muncul and the Regional Government to organize activities that can be reached by the community," he added.

For information, apart from Jatinangor, in 2025, Sido Muncul has provided free cataract surgery assistance to 494 patients with cataracts in Pekalongan, Sukabumi, Yogyakarta, Jonggol, Jambi, Jepara, and Indramayu.

And in October, Sido Muncul will again provide assistance to 250 patients with cataracts in Ternate.
