Collapse Of Islamic Boarding School In Sidoarjo, AHY: Building Quality Is Very Important For Safety

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) opened his voice about the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building in Sidoarjo, East Java. AHY said the case was being investigated by the authorities.

AHY also reminded the importance of paying attention to the quality of a building. In addition to comfort and function, safety factors are important things that cannot be ignored in building buildings.

"Of course we are very, very sorry, yes. We will check everything, I don't want to go beyond what is being investigated in the field. What is clear is that this is also proof of the quality of the building, construction is very important. Because it is not only comfort or function, but also safety. most importantly," said AHY when met at the office of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Jakarta, Wednesday, October 1.

According to AHY, the government continues to carry out investigations and ensure similar incidents do not happen again. "We certainly want more investigations and make sure they don't happen like that again," he concluded.

Previously, the Al-Khoziny Islamic boarding school building (Ponpes) located in Buduran District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, collapsed on Monday afternoon, September 29.

The building collapsed and hit hundreds of students who were praying in congregation.

The incident resulted in 1 person dying and 79 injured.

Reporting from ANTARA, Basarnas Deputy for Operations and Preparedness Edy Prakoso said the collapse of the building occurred on the same day when the casting activity took place since morning. The provisional suspicion regarding the cause of the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building is because the foundation is less strong.

"It is suspected that the foundation was not strong, so the building from the fourth floor collapsed to the ground floor," explained Edy, who received a report from Basarnas officers.

The collapsed building itself is a prayer room. Although still in the construction stage, the prayer room has been used for santri religious activities, especially for prayers and recitations. When it collapsed, prayer room was used for prayer.
