JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's trade balance in August 2025 recorded a surplus of 5.49 billion US dollars or an increase when compared to the previous month which amounted to 4.17 billion US dollars.
Deputy for Statistics Production of BPS M Habibullah said that Indonesia had recorded a trade surplus for 64 consecutive months since May 2020.
"The surplus in August 2025 was more supported by a surplus in non-oil and gas commodities of US$7.5 billion with commodities contributing to the fat and vegetable animal oil surplus, mineral fuel, and iron and steel," he said in a BRS release, Wednesday, October 1.
Meanwhile, in the same period the oil and gas commodity trade balance experienced a deficit of US$1.66 billion, most of which was due to high imports of oil products.
To note, export performance in August 2025 was 24.96 billion, an increase of 5.78 percent compared to August 2024 which was recorded at 23.60 billion US dollars.
The value of oil and gas exports was recorded at 1.07 billion US dollars, down 10.88 percent.
Meanwhile, the value of non-oil and gas exports rose 6.68 percent with a value of 23.89 billion US dollars.
The import value was recorded at 19.47 billion US dollars, or a decrease of 6.56 percent compared to August 2024 which was recorded at 20.84 billion US dollars.
The import value of oil and gas was recorded at 2.73 billion US dollars, an increase of 2.65 percent. Meanwhile, the value of non-oil and gas imports fell 7.98 percent with a value of 16.74 billion US dollars.
The cumulative trade balance or from January to August 2025 scored a surplus of 29.14 billion US dollars, up 10.33 billion US dollars from the same period last year which reached 19.01 billion US dollars.
In the period January to August 2025, Indonesia's total import value during the January to August 2025 period reached 155.99 billion US dollars, an increase of 2.05 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
Oil and gas imports (oil and gas) were recorded at 21.11 billion US dollars, or a decrease of 12.82 percent.
Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports were recorded at 134.88 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.85 percent on an annual basis.
