JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has announced 65 locations for the construction of the first phase of the Red and White Fisheries Village (KNMP) program.
Of the total 65 locations for the first phase of this year, two of them are in Bengkulu Province, namely Penago I Village, Seluma Regency, and Merpas Village, Kaur Regency.
The implementation of the KNMP program in Penago I Village has spent a budget of around Rp. 20.6 billion which is projected to be able to increase local fishery production, thus becoming a new fishery industry center in Selama Regency.
Other fishing villages can send fishery products to Penago I Village and vice versa the villages will receive ice supplies for fishing supplies.
Not only focusing on fishery infrastructure, the KNMP program also includes training, assistance to the provision of cold chain facilities and modern fishing.
The goal is for fishermen to be able to manage marine resources in a sustainable manner as well as create new jobs.
The head of the KNMP Implementing Team Trian Yunanda together with Inspector II KKP Lutfi visited Bengkulu on September 18-20, 2025.
Trian said the review was to ensure the readiness of the community, support of local governments and the sustainability of the program.
According to him, KNMP is not only focused on physical buildings, but also on strengthening people's capacity.
"We want to ensure that this program has a real impact on the welfare of fishermen while preserving the coastal environment," Trian said in a written statement, quoted Monday, September 22.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Seluma Teddy Rahman expressed his appreciation for the support of the central government through the program.
With the support of adequate facilities and infrastructure, it is believed that KNMP will become a model for developing environmentally friendly fishing villages.
"This program is a real step in realizing an advanced and competitive coastal area," he said.
In addition to the two locations that have been designated in the KNMP phase I development program, Enggano Island in North Bengkulu Regency has also become another location in Bengkulu which has the potential to enter phase II of development. Indonesia's outermost area in the Indian Ocean region has abundant fisheries potential.
Regional Secretary of North Bengkulu Regency Ir. Fitriyansyah expressed regional readiness to support the KNMP program.
"For administrative requirements, thank God it is complete. We are ready to fully support the construction of KNMP in Enggano to run smoothly later," he explained.
