JAKARTA PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) officially launched a special logistics service for the transportation of hazardous and toxic materials (B3).
This service is intended for businesses (B2B) with layered security standards, ranging from manifest verification, loading process, to ship storage.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo said B3 goods are known to have characteristics that can endanger humans and the ecosystem. Therefore, ASDP operates a special B3 logistics lane that is completely separate from passengers and public goods.
"This separation guarantees security and comfort for all service users," he said in an official statement, Thursday, September 18.
Heru emphasized that all B3 logistics services must follow the strict standards that have been set.
"We ensure that every stage of sending B3 logistics is carried out according to safety protocols to minimize risks, both to the environment and to the surrounding community," said Heru.
According to Heru, this initiative is in line with ASDP's efforts to strengthen safety-based services and compliance with environmental standards.
"The operation of separate lanes for logistics B3 is a form of our commitment in maintaining the safety as well as the sustainability of services," he said.
Furthermore, Heru said the B3 logistics service includes long distance ferry (LDF) crossing services on ASDP-served routes, equipped with a flexible ordering scheme, adequate transport capacity, warehouse and cargo hubs, and a transparent payment system.
"As well as a delivery process that service users can directly monitor," he said.
Heru said the existence of the special B3 route was considered to have strategic value in supporting the national supply chain.
The reason is, the material B3 plays an important role in the industrial, energy, and health sectors.
"With safer distribution, smooth supply can continue to be guaranteed," he said.
In addition, the special B3 route is part of the expansion of the logistics business service being worked on by ASDP. This step is expected to further open up ASDP's public insight, not only playing a role as a passenger and vehicle crossing operator.
