JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita admits that Indonesia is still lagging behind in the adoption of innovation in the manufacturing sector.
In fact, he said, Indonesia is a country with enormous natural resource wealth.
According to him, with its resources, Indonesia's manufacturing sector should be able to jump further in the future.
"I can say that Indonesia as a big country, a country rich in natural resources has not been able to adopt, has not been able to implement innovation in its manufacturing sector optimally and to support economic growth optimally," Agus said at the Indonesia 4.0 Conference & Expo 2025 event in Jakarta, monitored online, Wednesday, September 16.
He asked his staff to have an in-depth study of Indonesia's position compared to other countries, as well as to study the strategies of countries above Indonesia in the global innovation rankings.
"(Based on) this data, for my team it also needs to be completed, namely the comparison with the previous year I wanted to know what the comparison from the previous year was like. Then also the countries ranked above, who? That's why we can learn," he said.
"Negara A mengapa dia peringkatnya di atas, itu kami bisa dipelajari. Sehingga, kami bisa menerapkan atau mencari policy-policy yang bisa mengejar gap keterundakan kami sebagai negara besar," sambungnya.
Agus also assessed that it is important to know Indonesia's position in Southeast Asia (ASEAN).
According to Agus, the data presented shows that there is still a lot of homework that must be addressed immediately.
One of them is the acceleration of digital technology adoption and the application of industry 4.0 in the national production sector.
