JAKARTA - GoPay can now be used to pay for transactions through QRIS between countries at merchants in Japan. After previously successfully being used in several countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
This step is in line with Bank Indonesia's initiative to officially announce the expansion of the QRIS services between countries that can be used in Japan starting August 17, 2025, coinciding with the 80th Indonesian Independence Day.
GoTo Financial President Director Sudhanshu Raheja said the presence of GoPay payments on cross-border networks that can be used in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and now Japan, makes it easy for users to make payments abroad without exchanging money.
In addition, he continued, users can also get transparent exchange rates, as well as help tourism and merchant MSME players in Indonesia receive payments from foreign tourists.
"With this expansion, Indonesians visiting Japan can make payments at merchants only by scanning the JPQR code through digital payment applications in Indonesia, including GoPay," he said in an official statement, Thursday, September 11.
In addition to Japan, Bank Indonesia has also started a QRIS interconnection trial with a digital payment system in China, with a full implementation target by the end of 2025. Through this trial, the Indonesian people will soon be able to use GoPay to pay QRIS at various merchants in China.
"GoPay as one of the leading digital financial services applications in Indonesia continues to support Bank Indonesia's initiative to expand access to QRIS between countries, with the target of expanding to China in the near future. GoPay is committed to providing convenience, security, and affordability for its users in every transaction, both domestically and across countries," he said.
