JAKARTA - The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) said that the new housing financing scheme, namely buying or rent to own (RTO) can be a solution to help informal sector workers own subsidized livable houses.

Expert Staff of the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Endang Kawidjadja said this scheme is expected to be a solution for low-income people (MBR) in homeownership.

"The Ministry of PKP strongly supports the purchase rental scheme proposed by the All-Indonesian Housing and Settlement Development Association (Apersi)," said Endang in a written statement, Monday, August 11.

In order to speed up the discussion of the scheme, said Endang, the Ministry of PKP will soon form a working group team (Pokja) related to the proposed purchase financing scheme. Moreover, many people, especially informal workers, need financial assistance to own their dream home.

"We will form a Pokja Team so that we can further finalize the purchase lease, because there is still a lot to discuss and find solutions to it," he said.

According to Endang, the rental scheme can be a solution, but this is not final at this time because it is only the first conception and is still being discussed.

"In two weeks, the results must be reported to the Minister (PKP) again. Hopefully at that time it will be more complete and this RTO program can run," he concluded.

Previously, the Association for Housing and Settlement Development throughout Indonesia (Apersi) proposed a rent-to-own (RTO) scheme to be purchased as a solution for low-income people (MBR) in homeownership.

The scheme is believed to help MBR earn non-permanent or hinder SLIK OJK to keep the house in installments.
