JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation plans to operate water taxis or water taxis as an alternative mode of transportation on the Island of the Gods, Bali.

This plan is an alternative to reduce traffic congestion in Bali.

Secretary of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Lollan Andy Sutomo Panjaitan, said that this water taxi is planned to be applied from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to tourist areas such as Seminyak, Kuta, to Canggu.

"This water taxi program plan is actually an alternative to reduce congestion. So other programs are also still running to reduce congestion in the Bali area, especially from airports to tourist destinations, in this case Canggu," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 5.

Lollan said that with this water taxi service, the travel time which usually takes 1 to 2 hours by land is projected to be cut by up to 20 minutes.

"If it is indicated that this land is about 1-2 hours, from the initial indication by sea, hopefully it can be 20 minutes," said Lollan.

To realize this plan, said Lollan, the Ministry of Transportation has established cross-agency collaboration, including with the government and local governments. By appointing PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) as the operator, supported by Udayana University in terms of research institutions.

Lollan said that currently the Ministry of Transportation considers it necessary to accelerate the bureaucratic process.

This is because collaboration between ministries/agencies for the procurement of marine taxi programs has been established.

The synchronization of central and regional programs has been established. And also for other things, licensing development. Especially licensing related to the Ministry of Transportation, of course, we are ready to provide relations for acceleration," he said.

Even so, he said, the most important thing is how to produce comprehensive study studies in the near future.

The reason is, this water taxi program needs an in-depth study ranging from technical, economic, to social-culture aspects.

"Incidentally, we are currently being surveyed, hopefully there will be appropriate locations for development to be carried out with environmental effects that can be taken into account, or maybe the impact can be overcome," he said.
